Aspiring for a film career, he assisted Anurag Kashyap in the criminal drama “The Gang of the Blood Struggle” (2012) and later played a minor role in two of Kashyap’s films.

He played his first protagonist in the independent drama “Masaan” (2015), making his best male debut at the IIFA and Screen Awards, and then as a distraught cop in Kashap’s Psychological Thriller Raman Ragav 2.0 (2016).

Vicky Kaushal got a lot of attention in 2018 and played a supporting role in  two of the most popular Hindi films of the year, Raazi and Sanju. In the latter case, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.

His 2018 project also included the protagonists of the Netflix movies Love Per Square Foot and Love Is a Many-Story. In the following year, Vicky Kaushal played a military officer in the critically acclaimed and commercially successful action film Uri: The Surgical Strike and won the National Film Awards best actor award.

 Early life and work (1988-2016)

Vicky Kaushal

Kaushal was born on  May 16, 1988, in the suburbs of Mumbai. He is the son of Sham Kaushal, a stuntman, and later the action director of Hindi films, Veena Kaushal. In addition to that, he has a younger brother, Sunny, who is also an actor.

His family is Punjab Hindu. Kaushal described himself as “an ordinary kid  interested in studying, cricketing, and watching movies.” Since his parents wanted his son to have a stable career, Kaushal graduated from Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology in Mumbai with a degree in electronics and telecommunications engineering.

During an industry visit to an IT company, he discovered that  office work wasn’t right for him and began pursuing his film career. He temporarily got a job as an engineer and started to accompany his father on a movie set.

He studied acting at the Academy of Kishor Namit Kashy and was an assistant director of Anurag Kashyap in the two-part criminal drama “The Gang of the Blood Conflict” (2012). Kaushal recalls working with Kashyap, who he considers to be a mentor.

He also began working on stage in his first acting job in the production of Manave Cowl’s Lahr Pencil. The Indian actor has been a supporting actor in Kashap’s experimental short Geek Out (2013) as well as Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana (2012) and Bombay Velvet (2015).

The independent drama directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, “Masaan,” was Kaushal’s first performance as a protagonist. Kaushal and Ghaywan are both assistants to the Gangs of Wasseypur, who appeared in the film after Rajkummar Rao resigned.

In order to play a young man of the lower socio-economics who longs for a better life, Kaushal spent some time observing a local male Mannerism in Benaras, where the movie is being screened. The film was screened  at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival in Un Certain Regard and won two awards, including the FIPRESCI Prize.

Masaon won critic praise, and the New York Times saw it as a prime example of the rise in realism in Indian cinema. HuffPost’s Nikhil Taneja describes Kaushal’s performance as “inspirational and unforgettable,” and Hindu Anuj Kumar writes that “it easily conveys both an inferiority complex and an attitude of breaking  the caste box.”

Among the awards he has won are the IIFA and Screen Awards for the Best Male Debut, as well as the Asian Film Awards for the Best Newcomer.

The 2015 Busan International Film Festival commemorates the release of the play “Zuburn” directed by Kaushal before Masaan. His role was the role of a mourning man who began to stutter after the death of his father.

He worked with a speech therapist to learn stuttering patterns and spent time with some of the doctor’s patients. After finishing his film work, Kaushal found it difficult to stay away from the character and began to stutter in real life.

His performance led to variety Justin Chan calling him  a “charismatic and naturally fascinating talent.” In Kashyap’s psychological thriller Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016), Kaushal played a drug addict police officer in the search for a serial killer depicted by Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

The restless and unbalanced personality has little to do with Kaushal’s own personality, and  he lived in isolation for five days and constantly repeated lines from the script to persuade Kashap to cast him. rice field.

Aseem Chabra, a contributor to Rediff.com, said his performance was “brave,” adding that “if Raman Raghav 2.0 has one big surprise, it’s Vicky Kaushal’s outstanding performance.” Neither Zubaan nor Raman Raghav 2.0 could find a wide audience with box office revenue.
