Two Ghaziabad policeman have been arrested for robbing two individuals who stole 3.6 lakh from a woman in Delhi.

In a surprising turn of events, a woman residing in Delhi’s Bhajanpura approached the Ghaziabad police to report the theft of Rs. 3.6 lakh from her house. This seemingly straightforward case took an unexpected twist as the woman revealed that the thieves themselves had been robbed by two Ghaziabad policemen. The revelation led to the arrest of the two police personnel involved in the incident.

On July 19, the woman, identified as Richa Sharma, reached out to the Ghaziabad police with her harrowing tale. She explained that her house had been robbed by two men on the intervening nights of May 25 and 26. However, her world turned upside down when she later discovered CCTV footage in her neighbourhood, which exposed the identities of the two thieves.

According to the CCTV footage, the two suspects were her neighbour and another resident from the same neighbourhood. The footage revealed that on May 26, the two thieves arrived at DLF Colony in Ghaziabad, carrying the stolen ₹3.6 lahks. It was at this point that they encountered two police officers, identified as head constable Dheeraj Chaturvedi and constable Indrajeet Kumar.

Instead of arresting the thieves and recovering the stolen money, the two policemen allegedly resorted to unlawful means. They reportedly robbed the two suspects of the stolen money and allowed them to go free. This shocking revelation prompted an immediate investigation by the Ghaziabad police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (trans-Hindon) Vivek Chandra Yadav took charge of the case and initiated a thorough inquiry. Upon prima facie evidence of the policemen’s involvement, they were charged under Indian Penal Code Section 392, which pertains to robbery. Subsequently, the police officers were arrested to face the consequences of their actions.

As the investigation progressed, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Suryabali Maurya, who was in charge of the inquiry, recorded statements from Richa Sharma and her husband, Alok Sharma, who were the victims of the initial theft. The couple also brought along two men, Naveen Verma (20) and Gaurav, suspected of burglarizing their home.

During their statements, Naveen and Gaurav claimed that they had come to DLF Colony to purchase shoes from a local market while under the influence of alcohol. A confrontation with another individual resulted in the involvement of the police. The two theft suspects further narrated that the two policemen took them to a local police post, where they were allegedly coerced to hand over the stolen money. The policemen then released them without proper procedure, displaying clear negligence in handling the situation.

However, a peculiar aspect of the case arose when the Ghaziabad police requested that Richa Sharma provide a copy of the First Information Report (FIR) she had filed in Delhi following the burglary at her home. Surprisingly, she failed to produce the FIR, raising questions about the case’s jurisdiction and complexity.

Meanwhile, authorities clarified that Naveen and Gaurav, the two suspects robbed by the policemen, were now considered witnesses in the ongoing investigation against the police officers. A comprehensive inquiry was underway to determine the truth behind the allegations, which could potentially have serious consequences for the implicated policemen.

As the case unfolded, it became evident that both the Delhi and Ghaziabad police departments had pivotal roles to play in uncovering the truth. The interplay between the two jurisdictions created additional complexities for the investigators, with the incident spanning across city borders.

It was revealed that Richa Sharma had initially filed an FIR in Delhi following the burglary at her house. However, due to the incident taking place in Ghaziabad, the jurisdiction shifted, and the case fell under the Ghaziabad police’s purview. The lack of a copy of the Delhi FIR complicated matters and necessitated a collaborative effort between the two police departments to connect the dots.

Despite the challenges, the Ghaziabad police remained committed to solving the case and ensuring justice was served. The involvement of police officers in a crime they were sworn to prevent only added to the gravity of the situation, raising questions about trust and accountability within the law enforcement community.

As the investigation progressed, it also highlighted the significance of CCTV surveillance in solving crimes. Richa Sharma’s efforts to scour her neighbourhood’s CCTV footage ultimately led to the identification of the original thieves. This served as a reminder of the invaluable role that modern technology plays in maintaining security and aiding law enforcement.

In conclusion, what began as a straightforward theft case in Delhi evolved into a multi-faceted investigation spanning across jurisdictions. The theft of ₹3.6 lahks from Richa Sharma’s home took an unexpected turn when the thieves themselves were robbed by two Ghaziabad policemen. The subsequent arrest of the police officers underscored the need for accountability and transparency within the law enforcement system.

As the case continued to unfold, the collaboration between the Delhi and Ghaziabad police departments became crucial in piecing together the puzzle. The investigation highlighted the complexities and challenges faced by law enforcement agencies when dealing with incidents that cross city boundaries.

This incident also served as a testament to the power of modern technology to solve crimes. The use of CCTV footage played a pivotal role in identifying the original thieves, emphasising the importance of surveillance systems in maintaining public safety.

As the case remained ongoing, it stood as a stark reminder of the responsibility that law enforcement personnel hold in upholding the law and protecting citizens. The pursuit of justice, in this case, would undoubtedly serve as a critical step in rebuilding trust between the public and the police.
