Mercedes is a name every automobile enthusiast is fond of. The symbol of Mercedes is one of those renowned symbols, that have become universally acknowledged, in terms of quality, globally accessible reach, and genuineness. Its branding has been further heightened by mass media such as newspapers, televisions, and the internet.

As an automotive pioneer, Mercedes has always stood for eco-friendly initiatives, usage of sustainable components, low emission mobility, and constantly undergoing positive development; a dominant stand for innovation.

A brand that has almost become synonymous with premium quality, luxury, and longevity, This vehicle manufacture has proved its eminence from time and again. Mercedes is short for Mercedes-Benz, behind which lies an origin story unlike any other, one that has crowned into today’s giant of a vehicle manufacturer.

Mercedes-Benz was established as a merger between two rival companies: DMG (Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft) and Benz & Cie. The generators of the two companies had independently and simultaneously created their versions of the motor vehicle. The Mercedes-Benz brand was inaugurated by automobile colonizers Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler in 1926 Daimler-Benz.

Benz built the first gasoline-powered automobile, while Daimler patented the first motorcycle and thereafter made his automobile, both of which were designed with the help of Wilhelm Maybach, who also has several automotive technology breakthroughs to his name. The Mercedes-Benz brand has continued the heritage of its instituting generators over its long history, continually at the front line of contrivance across performance, styling, and safety.

The German automotive corporation, that has been stood behind the considerably successful Mercedes-Benz brand today, is Daimler AG, which is headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany. It was none other than Gottlieb Daimler who came up with the company bromide “Das Beste oder Nichts” meaning “the best or nothing.”  

Here is a timeline of one of the most eventful occurrences of the business empire

1834: Gottlieb Daimler, one of Mercedes’ founding fathers, was born in Schorndorf, Germany and went onto working as a draftsman. Till date it is difficult to associate him with said brand or company.

1844: Carl Benz, born in Karlsruhe, Germany; a forerunner in the field of mechanical engineering.

1846: Born on February the 9th in Heilbronn, Wilhelm Maybach’s entire way of life took a transition for the better when he was acquainted with Gottlieb Daimler in 1864.

1883: Benz establishes the company Benz & Cie. He further went on to designing the first gasoline-powered automobile.

1884: Daimler and Maybach created an internal combustion engine known as the Grandfather Clock, a compact, light engine designed to power a motor.

1889: The landmark year when Daimler and Maybach successfully build their first automobile.

1890: In need of financing, Daimler started ‘Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft’ (DMG) with business partners Max Duttenhofer and Wilhelm Lorenz.

1894; Benz introduces the Velocipede, the first large-scale production automobile, popularly termed as Velo.

1900: Gottlieb Daimler passes away.

1901: The first Mercedes was released by DMG.

1906: Carl Benz establishes the new company Carl Benz Söhne (Carl Benz & Sons) to focus solely on automobile production.

1907: Wilhelm Maybach resigned from DMG and started his car manufacturing company with his son, Maybach Motorenbau.

1912: Carl resigns as Managing Director of Benz & Sons, leaving the functioning of the company to his sons.

1926: The competing car manufacturers merged as a joint venture in 1924 to survive the extremely poor economic state in the aftermath of World War I. The company revealed its first Mercedes-Benz passenger car comprising the new logo, the three-pointed star logo at the 1926 Berlin Motor Show.

1929: Carl Benz passes away, but his heritage lives on.

1936: Mercedes-Benz launched the W136 car model and the their first ever diesel passenger car.

1980 & Beyond: After more than a couple of slight mishaps, Mercedes-Benz turned to one of the first car brands in the early ’90s to remove injurious CFC chemicals from the air conditioning systems of its vehicles,  

In the June of the year 1909, Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) registered both a three-pointed and a four-pointed star for its motor vehicle logos as trademarks, but then only the three-pointed star was used. To DMG, the star showcased Gottlieb Daimler’s aims for universal automobile industry: on Land, Water, and even in the Air.

Daimler-Benz also underwent tasted business changes over the decades like the merger with the Chrysler Corporation in 1998, which saw the company change its name to Daimler Chrysler AG and solidify its global position. The merger, however, ended just nine years thereafter and ultimately in 2007, it was officially renamed Daimler AG. Mercedes-Benz has delivered again and again vehicles that are almost dreamlike.

Mercedes 540K

Available as both a two- and four-seat convertible, four-seater coupé, or seven-seater limousine (with armoured sides and armoured glass), it was one of the most magnificent cars during the Second World War. The straight-8 cylinder engine of the 500K was enlarged and fed by twin pressurized updraft carburetors, developing 115 hp. Contextually, this car was worthy of carrying few high-ranking officers of Hitler.

Hands down, one of the most favourite models ever manufactured by the company. Two distinct models were offered to the public: the coupe and the roadster. SL is the short form for “super-light” in German; moreover, its name owes to the Gullwing doors opening straight up to create a unique, birdlike appearance. Although first acquainted to the public in 1952 as a race car, with its commercial production lasting 9 straight years, the 300SL was named “sports car of the century”.

280SL Pagoda

In a line, a car that oozes class.

Firstly introduced at the Geneva motor show in 1963, Pagoda has acquired its name owing to its patented, slightly concave hardtop. The 280SL carries a 2.8-liter inline 6-cylinder engine capable of putting out approximately 170 horsepower. Suffice to say,it was quite ahead of its time.

Mercedes Maybach S Class

The winner of the most stylish Mercedes is the Mercedes Maybach S Class S650. It is the top most model of the S class series and is priced as the whopping amount of Rs. 3.34 Crores. The engine is set to put out 621 bhp @5000 rpm and 1000 NM @ 23000rpm of max power and max torque respectively and is made to be available in 12 colours.
