  • According to Mamata Banerjee, these next two weeks could prove crucial for the state, with further restrictions being imposed depending on the Covid – 19 situation in the state. Omicron is spreading very rapidly all over India. Prime Minister Mamata Banerjee will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ANI news agency reported, to discuss the situation amidst the increasing Covid – 19 cases. As of Thursday, the West Bengal government announced RTPCR testing became mandatory for all interstate border movements.

  ” There should be RTPCR for interstate travel by border areas; Importantly, restrictions will increase in the coming days and the Chief Minister will meet Prime Minister Modi on Friday, said the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She also confirmed that she will meet the Prime Minister on Friday to discuss the Covid – 19 situation. The number of daily cases of Covid – 19 has increased to 14,022 and active cases to 33,042.  West Bengal Minister Mamata Banerjee said at a press conference on Thursday that 2,075 patients have been hospitalized in the state who are being infected with the coronavirus.

 She also reported that there are a total of 403 containment facilities in the state and that there are 19,517 beds available. West Bengal’s positivity rate is 23.17% and the fatality rate is 1.18%, she adds. In a wave of alarm on Wednesday, West Bengal reported as many as 14022 new Covid – 19 cases, the biggest single-day record increase.

 The figures show an increase of about 50% from the day before counting. As of Tuesday, the state has reported 9,073 cases of Covid – 19. West Bengal Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday her government is considering imposing further restrictions in the state due to the increase in Covid – 19 cases. Speaking about the current Covid – 19 situation, Mamata Banerjee announced that 2,075 patients have been hospitalized and a total of 403 containment zones have been delimited in the state.  ” Bengali positivity rate is 23.17%, the mortality rate is 1.18%, there are 19,517 hospital beds, ”  the minister said.

Prime Minister comes as the state government has seen an exponential increase in the number of hospitalizations, Mamata Banerjee adds, up to 2,075 inpatients. The state has a total of 403 containment zones and the positive rate is more than the 23.17% mortality rate has surpassed 1.18% in the state, Mamata Banerjee said.

 She added that 19,517 beds. available so far. The daily number of  COVID – 19 cases has increased from 14,022  active cases to 33,042,444. The Government of Bengal has ordered the closure of all educational institutions and allowed offices to operate with 50% of the workforce.

 The Chief of Staff, HK Dwivedi, announced at a press conference on Sunday that the night curfew had been implemented and that only essential services would be allowed to operate between 10 p.m. and 5 p.m. light in the state.

The state has also decided to operate flights from Delhi and Mumbai only three times a week – starting January 5, Dwivedi said. Direct flights from the UK, which have reported an impressive number of COVID – 19 cases in recent weeks, including those from the more infectious strain of Omicron, have also been stopped.

West Bengal turbulent news for Omicron:

Covid – 19 has left 19 people dead in Sonarpur district, south of 24 Paraangas, since January 21. The state has imposed a partial lockdown on the district to prevent the spread of the disease. The county government has decided to close stores on January 6, 7, 10 and 11.  Various educational institutions in the state have reported cluster outbreaks within the state.

A total of 47 staff members at Kalyani College have tested positive for the infection and the patients have been kept in isolation. There is no difference in the scenario at Raiganj Hospital and Medical College, where 17 employees tested positive for Covid – 19, including its president.

In other disturbing news, around 200 young doctors, paramedics and nurses have been found infected with the deadly virus at  NRS Medical College in Kolkata. A total of 125 people have tested positive for the infection at  R G Kar Hospital and Medical College.

 West Bengal lockdown: what is allowed

  • Local trains will be allowed to run at 50% capacity until 10 pm.
  • The malls, markets, and all other stores will be allowed to stay open until 10 pm, but only at half capacity.
  • Long-distance trains will operate on a regular schedule and capacity.
  • Metro trains in Kolkata will also run on the regular schedule, but at 50% capacity.
  • Cinemas and theatres are allowed to operate at 50% of their capacity.
  • Meetings and conferences are allowed up to 200 people at a time or 50 per cent of the room capacity, whichever is less.
  • Bars and restaurants are still allowed to open at 50% capacity until 10 pm.
  • Delivery of food and home essentials has been authorized during normal business hours.
  • Flights from Delhi and Mumbai will be operated only twice a week – Monday and Friday – starting January 5.

  • All tourist attractions, including zoos, will remain closed.
  • Swimming pools, beauty salons, spas, wellness centres and gyms have also been ordered to close.
  • No more than 50 people are allowed to attend weddings, and only 20 people are allowed to attend funerals and funerals.
  • Direct flights from the UK have been suspended.

The number of COVID – 19 cases in India increased exponentially

 In the past 24 hours, India has reported 90,928 new cases of coronavirus. The number of active cases nationwide is now 2,85,401. A total of 19,206 recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 3.43 41,009. Omicron’s total has increased to 2,630 in the latest update according to the Department of Health. 4,444 Maharashtra and Delhi continue to report the highest number of Omicron infections with 797 and 465 infections respectively, followed by Rajasthan, Kerala, Karnataka and Gujarat. Meanwhile, Manipur, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh each reported one case of Omicron.

 The daily positivity rate is  6.43% while the weekly positivity rate is  3.47%. A total of 68.53 RT PCR tests have been performed to date. The recovery rate is currently 97.81%. According to the United Department of Family and Welfare, positive cases account for less than 1% of all cases, currently  0.81%.
