Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line upper-midrange processor, the Snapdragon 778G, was released earlier this year. Many smartphone makers have also adopted it. Qualcomm has just released a somewhat improved Snapdragon 778g which is Snapdragon 778G plus.
Qualcomm has also unveiled three new chips, dubbed: Snapdragon 695 5G / Snapdragon 680 4G and Snapdragon 480 Plus 5G all are targeted for mid segment smartphone.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 788G plus with 5G support
This is built on the same kryo 670 CPU cores as the preceding Snapdragon 778g.
However, Qualcomm has increased the processor’s speed to 2.5 GHz from 2.4 GHz, as with the previous model. The GPU is exactly the same Adreno 642L GPU as the previous model, but Qualcomm claims it will perform 20% better. Various specifications, such as AI, 5G, other wireless connectivity, ISP, and so on, are unaffected. The X53 5G modem, on the other hand, can go up to 3.7 Gbps downlinks and 1.6 Gbps uplinks, as well as a triple IPS (Spectra 570L).
Snapdragon 695 5G processor from Qualcomm
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G is the successor to the Snapdragon 690, which was released earlier in June. Because it is a 600 series chip, this new processor is targeted for mid-range smartphones.
The graphics performance is 30 percent greater than the predecessor, according to Qualcomm, while the CPU is 15% faster. Both the millimeter-wave and sub 6GHz bands of 5G are available with the Snapdragon 695 5G. This SoC is based on Qualcomm’s Kryo 660 CPU, which has a clock speed of up to 2.2 GHz and includes an Adreno 619 GPU. Another significant update is the switch to a 6-nanometer chip, which should improve energy efficiency over the previous 8-nanometer chip.
Because it is a 600 series processor, as I previously stated, we should expect some rather strong mid-range 5G smartphones in the near future.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 4G
The Snapdragon 680 chipset is a new addition to the Snapdragon 680 family, designed for lower mid-range smartphones. The Snapdragon 680 is built using 6nm technology. It’s based on Qualcomm’s kryo 265 CPU cores, which are apparently improved versions of the Kryo 260 processors found in the Snapdragon 662. (an 11 nm chip).
The Adreno 610 GPU is also present. Snapdragon X11 LTE modem, FastConnect 6100 Subsystem, Spectra 346 ISP, and QC3 compatibility are all included in this 4g chipset. This chipset is designed for phones with displays with a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz and full HD plus.
Apart from the higher-end devices, spectra 346 is a triple ISP. Image data from three cameras can be processed at the same time.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+ 5g
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 + is an improved version of the Snapdragon 480, which was released earlier this year. It also has an 8 nm processor with Kryo 460 CPU and for graphics it has 619 GPU.
Qualcomm claims that it outperforms the previous model in terms of CPU and GPU performance. Its 5G modem is the Snapdragon X51. It’s made for devices with FHD+ displays that refresh at 120Hz, whereas the Snapdragon 480 can only handle it at 90Hz.
These chipsets have an excellent performance based on 5G, which means that 5G smartphones will be more affordable in the near future. Motorola, Xiaomi, Realme, Vivo, and OPPO are all expected to release products soon.
The 480+ chipset has piqued Nokia’s curiosity for its upcoming handsets. OPPO prefers the Snapdragon 695 because of the mm-wave support. Xiaomi’s next phones may use Snapdragon 695 and Snapdragon 778+ processors. But as they don’t have much hardware differenc,e so we can see the new phones really soon. We can see these companies launch phones with these chips maybe in this year itself.
