Breaking News: PM Modi Repealed 3 Farm Laws

After more than a year of agitation over the farm law, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the centre would repeal three controversial laws passed by Parliament in September. Prime Minister Modi apologized, saying the government had “failed to convince some farmers” of the farm law.

He noted three controversial bills would be overturned in the National Assembly this month. The prime minister decided to repeal all three agricultural reform laws that sparked massive peasant protests for nearly a year in a surprising twist. He said the cabinet would make a decision next month.

“We have decided to repeal all three laws about agriculture. In a speech to the public, Prime Minister Modi said, “The National Assembly, which begins at the end of this month, will begin the process of amending the constitution to repeal all three bills.”

“I apologize to India with sincerity and sincerity that I may not have been able to persuade the farmers [under the Agricultural Law]. “I am here to announce the decision to repeal three agricultural laws,” Modi said in a speech to the public on Friday.

Congress passed three farm laws last September. The bill was first submitted as three statutes in June and then approved by Congress by voice vote during the rainy season.

These laws are the Agricultural Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, the Farmer Contracts for Price Guarantee and Agricultural Services (Powers and Protection) Act, and the Essential Goods (Amendment) Act.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi today spoke in a landmark pre-election statement in a significant state about three controversial farm laws that have sparked mass protests by farmers across the country. It was announced at the Guru Purab Festival into commemorate the birthday of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism.

“Perhaps something was missing from our tapas so that we couldn’t convince some farmers about the law. But today is not the time for Prakash Parv to blame anyone. Today I want to inform the country that I have decided to repeal the three agricultural laws. “Prime Minister Modi said in his address to the public,

“Everything I did was for the farmer. What I’m doing is for the country.”

What Are The 3 Farm Laws?

Protests against these farm laws have been going on for over a year. Thousands of farmers have set up camps near Delhi’s border area and demanded its repeal. Repeal the controversial law.

The three bills were the Agricultural Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Promotion) Act 2020, the Farmers Agreement (Employment), the Price Guarantee and Agricultural Services Act 2020, and the Basic Goods Act of the Year (Amendment) 2020.

This bill was passed by Congress last year during the rainy season. Farmers continue to express their fears that the Center’s agricultural reforms will open the way to dismantling the minimum-price subsidy and leaving it in the hands of large corporations.

The Agricultural Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Support) Act provides a mechanism for farmers to sell their produce outside the Agricultural Markets Commission (APMC). Any licensed merchant can purchase produce from farmers at a mutually agreed upon price. This agricultural trade is not subject to the Mandy tax imposed by the state.

Farmers Price Guarantee and Agricultural Services Contracts (Employment and Protection) Act allows farmers to engage in contract farming and sell their produce freely.

The Mandatory (Amended) Act is an amendment to the existing Mandatory Act. The law now makes commodities such as grains, legumes, cooking oil and onions free for trade, except in emergencies (read the crisis). 4,444 Thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have camped outside Delhi since November 2020, demanding repeal of the law.

Protests continued after several rounds of negotiations between the government and farmers, parliamentary confusion and Supreme Court hearings.

Opposition and peasants accused the government of passing three bills without much discussion in Congress.

Farmers’ Union argues that the law will expose them to unfair competition with businesses and deprive them of guaranteed income.
