The storyline of Alice in Borderland:

The series revolves around the protagonist Ryohei and his friend Karube and Chota. The name in the series title Alice in Borderland refers to Arisu Ryohei. The series opens with the prologue of Arisu where he mentions that he is neither a hero nor a sorcerer. He does not regard himself as a player. He is just an ordinary person who wanted to escape from the meaningless reality and thus, he seeks refuge by playing NPC village games. He referred to the idea as escapism. And later quoted that don’t people want the similar things in their life.

Arisu Ryohei is a teenage boy who has a piece of poor luck in life and he has dropped out of high school. In an attempt to escape from the harsh reality, he resorts to video games and hangs out with his friends. His friends Karube and Chota had pretty much regular jobs. Karube was a bartender and Chota worked in an office and had to support his mother. Like Arisu, Chota and Karube wanted to escape from the monotonous reality of their lives.

During their visit to the station, they get transported to a parallel universe that looked like Tokyo but was abandoned. At first, they enjoyed their stay for the initial days. However, after some time they have an encounter with another person named Saori Shibukiu. She was also trapped in the land under the same circumstances. The goal is to play games to survive. Each of the players are given a VISA card. And, they have to participate in games to increase the days of their stay.

According to various sources, it has been stated that Japan was in a strict “state of emergency”. The restrictions were relaxed only during September 2021.

Will Alice in Borderland have the same cast as it did in Season 1?

As we have seen in the first season of Alice in Borderland, not all the casts survive until the end of the game. Also, there is a continuous appearance of new characters throughout the series. Aside from the protagonist Arisu played by Yamazaki, the season 2  will also feature Morinaga Yuki, Machida Keita, Murakami Nijiro, Miyoshi, and Naka Riisa.

Tsuchiya Tao who had appeared in season 1 will also appear in the subsequent season where she would play the role of Usagi. She is a mountain climber who accompanies Arisu in his games for survival. By the end of the first season, Arisu has figured out the mastermind behind the games. However, the series ends with a cliff hanger with more new games waiting for the poor players in an attempt at their survival. So, we can expect to see new casts in the next season.

What to anticipate in the Second Season of Alice in Borderland?

Alice in Borderland

The second season may probably start with the games introduced by Mira. We can expect the games to be more deadly and vicious. Since the actual gamemaster has already been revealed by Arisu, we can expect to come across the reason for the introduction as well as the purpose of the games. We hope that the second season dwells deeper into human existence and questions the absurdism of the game. We can also visualize the growing relationship of Arisu and Usagi and hope that their relationship would work out fine given that Arisu had already suffered the trauma of losing his childhood friends.
