The Gautam Budh Nagar police have arrested four individuals, including a 45-year-old woman, her 53-year-old male friend, her brother-in-law, and her stepdaughter’s father-in-law, on charges of murdering her eight-year-old son. The shocking incident unfolded after the child allegedly witnessed his mother and her male friend in a compromising position. Fearing that the child would expose their affair, the mother, along with the other suspects, conspired to kill the boy.

The series of events began on July 5, when the boy’s father, Kalyan Singh, reported his son missing to the Bhagalpur police station. According to Singh, his son has not returned home since July 2. The police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code against unknown persons and initiated a search operation.

On July 7, the child’s body was discovered in a drain in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district, prompting the Gautam Budh Nagar police to be alerted. The family positively identified the body as that of their missing child, and the post-mortem report indicated that drowning was the cause of death. The boy’s father informed the police that Sambhal was his native town.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the boy’s mother, Bhuri, was involved in an extramarital affair with Ompal Singh, a neighbour residing in Greater Noida who worked as a keyman in the Railways. On the night of June 28, the child caught Bhuri and Ompal together, and in response, he threatened to inform his father. Fearing the consequences of their relationship being exposed, Bhuri and Ompal decided to eliminate the child.

On July 2, Bhuri sent her son to her stepdaughter’s marital home in a nearby village, informing her husband that she was unaware of the child’s whereabouts. She instructed her stepdaughter not to disclose the fact that her son was with her. On July 6, Bhuri visited her stepdaughter’s home and took the boy outside. Pretending to give him medicine, she administered poison to him and left the premises.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida), Anil Kumar Yadav, provided details of the investigation, explaining that Bhuri and Ompal feared the repercussions of their illicit relationship becoming public knowledge. They believed that the child’s revelation would lead to disgrace within their families and community, thus motivating them to carry out the horrific crime.

The police arrested the four suspects involved in the murder. They will face charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code related to murder, conspiracy, and other applicable offences.
