MediaTek Dimensity 9000 launched: A top of the line processor from MediaTek

Mediatek, the name which was not mucked in light a few years back. In recent years MediaTek has done a fantastic work. In 2020 MediaTek beat Qualcomm and conquered the top rank in chipset distribution. And from nowhere, MediaTek has launched a new flagship processor, the MediaTek Density 9000.

This is the first 4 nm based chipset that MediaTek has launched; even Qualcomm and Apple are working on their 4 nm.

So there are so many hopes that this can bring many cheap flagship phones in recent times.

Mediatek 9000 architecture

Mediatek Dimensity 9000 is the first processor in the chip market designed in a 4nm based architecture.
Mediatek has used the cortex x2 high-performance cores, which are the successor of the cortex x1.

The A-710 are the successor of the A-77. With that, it has three cortex a-710 cores for low power day to day tasks. And there are four cortex A-510 cores for the minimal charge and to save battery consumption. There are rumours that this chipset is giving a score which is above 10lakh in Antutu benchmark.

And in some places like geekbench, this is head to head with the Apple A15 bionic. This is a significant performance jump in Mediatek’s history as per its predecessor.

These are now raw performance scores that MediaTek has claimed, so now we can’t say anything about the performance and overheating.

Now, these chips will be shipped to the brands, and then they will optimise the chip with their smartphones and then we can say anything about the performance.

Mediatek Dimensity GPU

Mediatek has not only worked on their CPU, but they have also improved their GPU. The new Dimensity 9000 has the new mali G-710 GPU which has a ten core. This is one of the first GPUs which can support raytracing technology which was available only in computers.

Raytracing is a feature used to enhance the graphics of a game to look realistic where it enables shadows. So this is a plus point for the processor to support raytracing.

The games which work on the base of Vulcan API can run by enabling raytracing. Samsung and Qualcomm are working on their GPU for this exact feature, too, but Mediatek has launched it first.

But we have to see how it performs because most of the games are optimised more for the Qualcomm chipsets. So if Mediatek uses this powerful GPU, there is a chance the matches can be more optimised for them too.

Display and refresh rate support

The new dimensity 9000 can support up to WQHD resolution display with a 144-hertz refresh rate.
And in total HD plus, the refresh rate bumps up to 180 hertz which can help in the latest gaming-centric phones.
Redmi has confirmed that a device could be launched with this processor, and Realme has also given a hint of their flagship phone.

AI capabilities of Dimensity 9000

Mediatek has claimed that this time the APU of this processor is a direct competitor of the Google Tensor, and the scores are surpassing the score of the Google Tensor. Precisely it is 16% more capable than the Google Tensor.
With AI, they have also improved the RAM this time; they have used LPDDR5x. This has a bandwidth of 7500 megabits/sec.

ISP of MediaTek Dimensity 9000

The ISP of the new processor is much more advanced than the previous generations. In gen seven, the ISP can process images up to 320MP, which is far superior to the previous generation. And three 32 MP cameras are supported with it and videos up to 8k 24 fps.

And moreover, you can shoot from all three cameras when recorded in 4k. Other features like 5g are supported, but only sub 6 GHz, there is no support of mmWave 5g and carrier aggregation is also supported.

And when it comes to Wifi and Bluetooth, it supports the latest-gen Wifi 6e and Bluetooth 5.3.

Mediatek Dimensity is better than Snapdragon.

So all come to the statement that is density 9000 better than Snapdragon. Yes, by looking at the spec sheet, this chipset is easily beating the Snapdragon. Even it is hitting Tensor, 888 and 888+. But let’s see what happens when snapdragon eight gen one launches in some days.

Stay tuned for that. We will indeed compare them both, and then we can say anything about that. Mediatek is claiming that this processor can give PC level performance and gaming.

But let us see how much it heats in real-life usage. Then only we can say it is that great if it doesn’t heat that much.
Apart from this here, the main problem is chip shortage, and as it is 4nm, it is already challenging to make. So the prices of the phones featuring these chips will indeed cross 30k. It all comes to a user if they are willing to pay the price for these chips.

Keeping the price low compared to the snapdragon eight gen 1 can outperform the market because the Snapdragon will surely not be less than 40k. So lets us see what happens when the Snapdragon 8 gen one launches.
