DTCP issues 100 additional notifications to homeowners for conducting business activities.

The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) in Gurugram has taken decisive action against property owners running commercial establishments in private licenced colonies in violation of rules. Over 100 show-cause notices were issued by the enforcement wing of DTCP to property owners in DLF Phases 1 and 2, as well as Sushant Lok 1, based on a survey conducted by DTCP teams. These notices are in addition to the 100 First Information Reports (FIRs) recommended by DTCP in the past 10 days against such violators.

Manish Yadav, district town planner (enforcement), explained that the notices were being posted on the respective houses regarding the violations, and property owners were given seven days to submit their replies. Failure to respond satisfactorily would result in further actions being taken against the owners, including restoration orders and the potential sealing of the commercial units. For those who do not take corrective action, FIRs would be recommended, and occupancy certificates for buildings could also be revoked.

The survey conducted by DTCP officials revealed that over 700 illegal commercial establishments are operating in DLF Phases 1 to 4, and notices are likely to be served to all such violators in due course. The illegal commercial activities in residential areas include a wide range of establishments, such as gyms, private banks, offices, parcel godowns, cycle shops, clothing showrooms, property offices, dental clinics, furniture stores, barber shops, guest houses, nursing homes, vehicle repair shops, beauty parlours, and more.

Complaints from residents in these private colonies have highlighted the adverse effects of these commercial activities, including traffic congestion, power and water shortages, and security issues due to the influx of visitors to these establishments. The DTCP is committed to maintaining the sanctity of residential areas and curbing commercial activities in such colonies to improve living conditions for residents.

In Sushant Lok 1, residents have reported a large number of commercial establishments operating out of private houses. The DTCP’s survey confirmed the presence of over 200 commercial establishments in residential areas, and notices will be issued to all violators in phases.

To address this issue, the DTCP has been closely following directives from the Director-General of Town and Country Planning, TL Satyaprakash, to enforce regulations and preserve the residential character of these colonies. The department initiated the survey to gather evidence, and strict action is expected to be taken in the coming weeks against those engaging in illegal commercial activities in residential areas.

The government’s regulations concerning minor consultancies operating from private residences have sparked a growing trend of individuals seeking “no nuisance” certificates from the DTCP (Department of Town and Country Planning) to run such businesses. However, this surge in applications has led to an alarming rise in unauthorised commercial establishments in residential areas, creating challenges for well-planned and sustainable urban development.

To address this issue, the DTCP has launched a crackdown on illegal commercial activities within private licenced colonies in Gurugram. By strictly enforcing regulations and curbing unauthorised commercial ventures, the department aims to foster livable and environmentally friendly communities. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader goals of promoting orderly city growth and safeguarding the rights and interests of law-abiding residents who are adversely affected by unchecked commercialization in residential zones.
