The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) in Gurugram has taken decisive action against property owners running commercial establishments in private licenced colonies in violation of rules. Over 100 show-cause notices were issued by the enforcement wing of DTCP to property owners in DLF Phases 1 and 2, as well as Sushant Lok 1, based on a survey conducted by DTCP teams. These notices are in addition to the 100 First Information Reports (FIRs) recommended by DTCP in the past 10 days against such violators.

Manish Yadav, district town planner (enforcement), explained that the notices were being posted on the respective houses regarding the violations, and property owners were given seven days to submit their replies. Failure to respond satisfactorily would result in further actions being taken against the owners, including restoration orders and the potential sealing of the commercial units. For those who do not take corrective action, FIRs would be recommended, and occupancy certificates for buildings could also be revoked.

The survey conducted by DTCP officials revealed that over 700 illegal commercial establishments are operating in DLF Phases 1 to 4, and notices are likely to be served to all such violators in due course. The illegal commercial activities in residential areas include a wide range of establishments, such as gyms, private banks, offices, parcel godowns, cycle shops, clothing showrooms, property offices, dental clinics, furniture stores, barber shops, guest houses, nursing homes, vehicle repair shops, beauty parlours, and more.

Complaints from residents in these private colonies have highlighted the adverse effects of these commercial activities, including traffic congestion, power and water shortages, and security issues due to the influx of visitors to these establishments.
