Priyanka Chopra Jonas Apologizes For “The Activist”; Reveals A Change Of Format
Priyanka Chopra Jonas apologized for her participation in “The Activist” competition series by CBS, following a social media backlash and controversy as many people tagged the series as insensitive and tone-deaf. Some called the concept of the show “a dystopian celebration into activism.”
Priyanka Chopra, a 39-year-old actor, who was listed as one of the hosts of the show alongside Usher (American singer and songwriter) and Julianne Hough (Dancer), said she has been “moved” by the condemnation and also recognized that “the show got it wrong.”
She shared a statement on her Twitter, which read: “I have been moved by the power of your voices over the past week. At its core, Activism is fuelled by cause and effect, and when people come together to raise their voice about something, this always brings an effect. You were heard.
The post continues, “It was wrongly taken by the show and I apologize that my involvement in it disappointed many of you. The intention was always to bring heed to the people behind the ideas and highlight the actions and impact of the causes they support tirelessly. I’m happy to know that according to the new format, their stories will be the highlight, and I’m proud to collaborate with partners who have their ears to the ground and know when it’s time to hit pause and to re-evaluate.”
The format of “The Activist” will be changed as a one-time documentary instead of a five-episode competition series, the American network CBS and Global citizen and Live Nation announced on Wednesday.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas also added that she is very happy as the new format highlights the activists’ stories. A global activist community that is rarely acknowledged- every day “fight with the fight”, puts their blood, sweat, and tears into creating changes. They deserve to be recognized and celebrated as their work is so important, said Priyanka Chopra.
The premiere date of the series was set on 22 October 2021, but now it is removed due to competitive elements; a new date will be announced by makers soon.
