Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia, better known as Akshay Kumar, is an Indian actor, producer, television personality, martial artist, stuntman and philanthropist working in Bollywood films.
Childhood and Relationships
Akshay Kumar was born in Amritsar into a Punjabi family and grew up in Old Delhi before moving to Koliwada in Mumbai. He attended Don Bosco High School in Mirik Darjeeling and Guru Nanak Khalsa College in Kings Circle, Mumbai. Akshay studied Muay Thai in Bangkok before entering the film industry and is a black belt in Taekwondo.
His father was an army officer who later became an accountant in UNICEF. Aruna Bhatia is the mother of Indian star Akshay Kumar. She is one of the most popular Indian film producers. Akshay said he is taking time out to be with his mother.Â
Akshay married Twinkle Khanna, who is the daughter of actor Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, on January 17th 2001. Akshay is the proud father of two children, a boy, Aarav, and the second a daughter, Nitara.
Akshay Kumar’s Movies and Career
He began his career with the movie Saugandh in which he played a small role, in 1991. In 1994, he starred in two action films, Main Khiladi Tu Anari and Mohra, which both were among the year’s highest-grossing films.
In 1996, he starred in the 4th and 5th films of Khiladi series. In 1997, he played a supporting role in the film Dil To Pagal Hai which earned him the Best Supporting Actor award from Filmfare. Later that year, Akshay starred in two successful movies, Suhaag and Elaan.
Akshay Kumar catapulted himself into the top league of actors in the industry with films such as Housefull, Kesari, Baby, Airlift, Mission Mangal, Bhool Bhulaiya, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi. The actor is known for his films on social issues and themes that give you a sense of patriotism.
In his 30-year career, he has appeared in hundreds of films and won several awards, including the National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in Rustom (2017), two Filmfare Awards for Ajnabee (2001) and Garam Masala (2005) and many more. He is considered one of the hardest working actors in the industry.
