With time, relationships have also changed. People changed and their encounters with the happy endings of their lives have also changed. But, what has not changed is our perception that the people we end up with must be pitch-perfect, no matter how flawed we are. When it comes to love, people have also digitalized their way of finding someone new. We no longer meet the love of our life in a crowded bus or in a library gazing at a book, but we find them in a right swap. The handwritten letters have changed to display messages. And, there are no heartbreaks now. If you don’t like someone you ghost.

Despite all these differences, the emotion remains the same- real as ever.  You wait for their DMs like you would have waited for their love-filled letters in that. Your lover does not write you poems but narrates you while you sleep. No matter how modern the world becomes, our idea of old-school love stories never fades away. 

So, here I will be reviewing the latest Netflix Original movie: Love Hard that was released on 5 November 2021. It has also been in the most-watched movies on Netflix.

The storyline of Love Hard:

Love Hard revolves around the life of Natalie who is in her early 30s experiencing a mid-life crisis. Most of the dates she has been to have never worked in favor of her. In short, her dating life is disastrous. She has a tinder account where she met many men. However, none of them matched up to the list of her perfections. Her love life was indeed very hard.

Natalie used to make a career by writing about her disastrous love life on a blog under the pen name ‘always a bridesmaid’. She used to gain a lot of viewers. It seemed that half of the people liked to read about her disasters in dating and the other half anticipated a swoon-worthy happy ending. And, Natalie belonged to the other half trying to meet her perfect better half. 

The movie, Love Hard opens with the monologue of Natalie saying “It has been said in the Greek mythology, humans were first created with four arms, four legs and a head with two faces. But fearing their power, Zeus split them into two separate parts, condemning humans to spend the rest of their life searching for their other half.”

The quote from Love Hard clearly reveals the tone in which Natalie quoted the texts. She was desperate until she found a guy named Josh on her tinder account. A guy who is masculine with sharp features loves all adventure outdoors and talks sensibly. She eventually developed a closeness for him through their constant texting, phone calls.

The most swoon-worthy moment was when Josh made Natalie fall asleep by constantly reciting her poems from the book that Natalie’s mother used to do for her. Everything was going smooth until one day Natalie flies 3000 miles to meet Josh for Christmas. Later, she found that Josh was catfishing her with his former best friend Tag. Not to kill your excitement, I will end the storyline here. 

The cast of Love Hard:

The main lead of the movie is Natalie, the role has been beautifully played by Nina Dobrev. Jimmy O. Yang who is familiar to us as ‘The Standup comedian’ has played the role of Josh. To add a cherry on top of the cake, the movie also features Darren Barnet. 

Is Love Hard the Yay Christmas movie?

If you are someone who is crazy for rom-com movies, you will definitely like it. The cuteness of Jimmy and the attractiveness of Darren can never be beaten. There are many aww moments in the movie that can not be ignored. It is not the best Christmas movie, but definitely, it is a good, light-hearted Christmas movie that can be enjoyed with your family. And if seeing people in love makes you the happiest, trust me this movie will hit the strings of your heart. Be ready to shed some tears by the end of the movie.

The endpoint of the movie is: love never comes easy. You are imperfect, everyone is and that’s okay. But, settling for someone that you are not is definitely not okay. And sometimes, love does not happen, at first sight, it grows in moments spent together and with someone you laugh together with. And that’s the beauty of love- LOVE is HARD.
