Hum Rahe Ya Na Rahe Kal……. A Musical Era Ends With The Death Of KK

From his earliest days, KK was simply KK. No one called him Krishna or Krishnakumar in school.

Despite being short and bespectacled, this slim boy had close-cropped hair on the sides and his melodious voice could mesmerize you. The person telling this to us is actually in neighbouring classrooms in the school. While we are approximately the same age, he is a year older than me. And they met many people for one reason: our love for music.

MUSICAL ENTRY: Aankhonme in Teri…

Coincidentally,  they both seemed to be part of a music group. Have you heard of socially useful productive work (SUPW) at school? You need to choose an area of interest and work with scholars on it. The person chose music just like KK.

And guess who the teacher was? None other than Loy Mendonsa of Shankar, Ehsaan & Loy fame. Little did we know then that both mentor and student would one day be topping the charts with their music and songs, respectively.  The interesting thing is that Loy, who used to play the keyboards mostly, now plays several other instruments.

He taught them guitar in school. And while they have never been much of a musician, it was good fun hanging with the group.

Rohan, who worked as a treasury man at a bank last time I checked (I won’t say their full names) and Verghese, who had gone to Australia last I heard, were the guitarist duo; Rohan played lead guitar and Verghese played bass. The incredible combination with Loy as the guiding light saw us storm the interschool competition like no one had seen before.

They were belting out songs of famed guitarists, like Mark Knopfler`s Money for Nothing. The group stood apart.

When KK was growing up, he always had that yearning look in his eye (Aankhon Mein Teri…) of wanting to pursue a career in music. It was not easy back in those days for KK to pursue a musical career. In addition, he has never been a fan of Hindi music.

In school we always looked to a much younger schoolmate, in his 8th grade I think (forget his name, it`s been so long), who had a wonderful voice for ghazals, et al. KK was always seen as the “western music” guy.

From what I heard, he didn`t have it easy to start with. Someone said he was working with an advertising agency and didn’t like it a bit. The next time I heard from him was when his wife took his album home.

I couldn’t believe he was singing a Hindi song, but if he had to make a living from music in India, I think singing for a movie was the only way, at least at the time. .. I don’t know where he got, but I’m glad he did it. School life: Garyan’s Chod Ae Ham …

rahe

KK became an easy and unassuming guy, even though he ought to nicely pull a prank or two. He became commonly excellent hearted.

He`d frequently drop into a chum Malhotra`s (let`s go away it at that) domestic in Greater Kailash–II in Delhi. Malhotra and I were given near, even though he became 12 months senior, as we lived simply one lane apart.

KK became Malhotra`s excellent pal and classmate. That he became dwelling in Kalkaji, now no longer too a long way away, best brought about everyone assembly extra frequently.

Never had we ever imagined the time wherein we’d all be. We constantly knew KK became an exceptional singer and prayed that he do nicely, however creating a dwelling of making a song in the ones days became a tall ask.

In the one’s days we`d do random such things as placing out past due night time close to the temple on Janamashtami day or simply stepping out to the marketplace for a chai, and what have you. Typical Delhi thing.

In KK`s passing, whilst we grieve, we additionally cheer what he controlled to achieve. And whilst I did now no longer hook up with him in his in-reputation years, constantly felt that might be very awkward, the reminiscences remain.

He has left early. Why? Khuda Jaane…

Lyrics of KK`s loved song–a farewell anthem for some, lovelorn balladry for many–are on loop withinside the coronary heart, thoughts and fears of his lovers because of the information of the singer’s premature demise.

He succumbed to a cardiac arrest in Kolkata after a stay performance–doing what he cherished the most. But people who knew him near enough knew that it became inside his coronary heart to release some other album or an unmarried for a protracted time.

A supply near the singer tells Hindustan Times how KK was constantly taken into consideration himself an unbiased singer:

“He favoured doing singles. He was looking to do an album or an unmarried for the longest time, however, he desired to position his coronary heart and soul into it. He did not need to do it simply due to the fact an excessive amount of time had elapsed.”

His closing album Humsafar had popped out in 2008. ” Because all of his unbiased tracks have been so well received, he wished to either improve upon them or modify them. Due to this delay, he finally released his unbiased track on July 25.” says the supply.

KK

KK’s extraordinary demise has despatched shockwaves throughout the tune and movie industry, in addition to amongst his legion of lovers throughout generations, of ways fragile lifestyles honestly is.

KK had discovered in a 2019 interview to Hindustan Times how whilst he was lively withinside the tuning world, he felt there has been part of himself that he had ignored as an artist. D

espite feeling the electricity and vibe of stay performances and playback making a song, he felt “restless”. “I was looking to do a number of my very own stuff,” stated the singer, whose complete call became Krishnakumar Kunnath.

But  he was an artist and didn’t want to break away from his “commitment to the audience.” “That’s my highlight … connecting with the audience. Wherever I go, I’m connected. I’m so happy and happy that I’m doing this for a living. Because I don’t think there is anything else that can bring me that much happiness. “

And ironically, he went on stage and drew love and admiration from the crowd at his last moment when he sang Pal at Nazururu Mancha in Kolkata on May 31st. KK was already doing a lot at the age of 53, but he had a lot to do.

“I didn’t study music at all. I want to learn something, play the piano and feel satisfaction. My desire now is to learn,”  Kishore Kumar fans said. I was excited to say that. But he wasn’t a planner.  ”

In my case, it was the fact that I was alive to come… Planning is impossible for me.  KK’s music repertoire includes Tadap Tadap Ke, Khuda Jaane, Beete Lamhe, Abhi Abhi, Tu Jo. It’s full of gems such as Mila, Tu Aashiqui Hai, Kya Mujhe Pyaar Hai, and Appad iPodu, but Pal and Yaaron have their supporters.

The multilingual singer attributed this to her “timeless lyrics.” He first performed these songs from his first album at the 1999 College Festival. KK pointed out that the college audience changed from year to year, but the song remained a staple throughout his performance and only became “bigger and better.” “I never thought they would grow so big, I didn’t think they would connect generations, but that’s what they were … A timeless classic, “he said.  It was

a song he wanted to write again. What stopped him?  KK explains: If you want to do something yourself, you need to dig deeper into yourself to see what you want to do at that point. I’m a person who likes to sit down and come up with ideas. I can’t make music to do that. I have different ideas and I want to make sure I stick to what I think is right.

KK

That was an obstacle. “For some reason, you start putting mental pressure on yourself to do the right thing. Sometimes I tell myself:” Trust your gut sensations. ” I  always do that, so I’m wondering why I  can suddenly start thinking more about “ye time thik nahi hai (it’s not okay)” (time comes). I just want to stop thinking so much and get involved. “

He wanted to “upgrade” his musical skills as his composer, so he was confident that he would release a single in 2020. He wanted to “switch”. ” I had a blast riding, singing and playing together, so it was great, but I have to do more in the future.”

Only if the wish is a horse and you can tame your life. But here I am, near the singer, and with the singer, remembering “beetelamhe” and “pal”.
