The release of Aryan Khan is all over the news, and the fans are celebrating this day, but apart from that, we have some news on amended laws from few states related to the online gaming platform.
Karnataka’s gambling law
On October 7, an FIR was registered against the creators of the online sports platform “Dream 11” for running a gaming house. Earlier on September 21, legislation was passed by the Karnataka Legislature regarding the amendment of the Karnataka Police Act formed in the year 1963. Through that legislation, all types of gambling, including online mode is a non-bailable and cognizable offense. The Karnataka Police Amendment Act, 2021 was accepted and came into action on October 5.
Meanwhile, similar laws were also introduced in the states of Telangana, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. The states were facing many challenges regarding the increase in the area of gambling beyond the rules that are mentioned under the law. The Madras High Court struck down the Tamil Nadu Gambling and Police Law, 2021, on August 3 and later decided to strike down on the amendment to the Kerala Gaming Act,1960, and according to that, the ban on online rummy had been imposed.
After the law came into action, several online gaming sites have used geo lock for their apps and sites in Karnataka, to escape from the police action on the access made by any of the customers. But on October 7, FIR was registered against one of the known online gaming platforms, “Dream 11” for running a gaming house.
