UAE signs 'historic' deal to buy 80 French-made Rafale fighter jets

In today’s world, every nation is trying their best to get the most powerful weapons for their country to become the strongest, and in that order, United Arab Emirates has signed the mega weapon deal with France and bought 80 Rafael fighter jets. This deal is known to be the biggest weapon deal ever for France. The weapon deal is worth 16 billion euro for the 80 Rafael fighter jets in its most advanced version to the United Arab Emirates. 

It was announced by France that they have successfully signed the deal worth 16 billion euros with UAE and it is the largest weapon deal contract France has ever got for the export.

The deal was not pre-planned, all the things happened during a stop by the French President, Emmanuel Macron during his two-day visit to the Persian Gulf but luckily they go the chance and are fortunate enough to get a great deal and to maintain a good relationship with the United Arab Emirates.

UAE has signed the deal for 80 upgraded F 4 version Rafael fighter jets and will be the first user of the F 4 version outside France. In comparison to this deal, it will appear like a mouse in front of the elephant as a deal worth $66 billion collapsed for Australia to buy 12 French submarines.

The purchase made by the UAE government is a huge success in the field of defence and will enhance the military capabilities to a new level in terms of air war and strikes and it was said that Rafael will act as a tool that guarantees operational independence and sovereignty and will also contribute to making the region more stable.

As per the reports during the contract signing the crown prince of Abu Dhabi Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was also present. France and the United Arab Emirates share a good relationship especially since the attack in 2001 not only that a French naval base is also set up in the United Arab Emirates at Abu Dhabi’s port Zayed since 2009.

Abu Dhabi holds several thousands of American troops under its umbrella, and also at Al- Dhafra Airbase acts as a station for the French warplanes and personnel.

Second Egypt Defence Expo to open in November

Recently, the second International weapon fair was concluded by Egypt. It is a place where the military from the Middle East look to increase their weapon and defense power, and they buy the weapons from the weapon fair instead of US suppliers.

It was a four-day defense expo organized by Egypt, where hundreds of exhibitors showcased and that is raising the rank of the country in terms of importers of the World’s top arms.

As of now, no announcement has been made by the Egyptian government regarding any new weapon deal during the weapon fair. For decades, the military has played a significantly important role in the widespread crackdown on dissent under the guidance of Abdel – Fattah el – Sissi, the President of Egypt.

Meanwhile, the country was called on its human rights records by the United States and also, to maintain regional stability. The Relationship will be maintained.

On one hand, where President El- Sissi is looking for more powerful firepower to maintain the reputation of the Egyptian military as one of the largest and standing power of the region, at the other hand, questions have been raised on human rights by the United States President Joe Biden’s administration. 

In recent years, Egypt has maintained a distance from the suppliers from America. According to the reports El- Sissi also met the CEO of the gun-making company from South Korea.

Around September, $200 million was released by the United States for the military aid to Egypt but $130 million was withheld by the country as the concerns were raised over the violation of rights.

By the side, Egypt has also been trying to rock-solid the naval defense powers after the gas deposits were discovered in the Mediterranean water since it has been known that the Naval army of Egypt is the most neglected part for a long time.

Now the country has started looking into it and new pieces of equipment have been acquired by Egypt from the Russian suppliers, European suppliers, and also from China. The shopping list also includes German submarines, French Submarines, and Italian frigates.

No financial details have been released as the Egyptian military seems to be secretive about the facilities and the holdings they provide. In the last three years, the weapon imports grew by almost 136% and Egypt is in third place after Saudi Arabia and India when it comes to buying weapons, and the Middle-East region is considered to be the fastest-growing weapon market.
