KANPUR MEMORIAL CHURCH

The Kanpur Memorial Church, also renowned as All Souls’ Cathedral, was completed in 1875. The church was erected to commemorate the British lives lost during the Siege of Kanpur in 1857. This architectural gem is located on Albert Lane, right in the heart of the Cantonment. Built-in the Lombardic Gothic style, its red bricks say eloquently about a bygone period.

There is also a Memorial Garden to the east, which contains a baroque screen crafted by Henry Yule. Carlo Marochetti also created an angel figure, which is rather impressive. NANA RAO PARK

The Nana Rao Park, located in the center of Kanpur, is a landmark of immense historical value to the city. Initially called Memorial Well, this park was established to honor the British women and children who died during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The park was, in reality, the epicenter of Kanpur’s 1857 revolt, serving as the hanging place for 144 Indian rebels.

It’s a spot for meditation, where one may stand in stillness, imbibe history, and feel the echoes of India’s first war cry for total independence from British Rule. Today, the well-kept lawns and colorful flower beds of this metropolitan area create a picturesque environment for a romantic stroll.
