Priyanka Chopra Jonas is an Indian actress, singer, model, producer, and philanthropist. She is a stunning and stylish Bollywood actress who is one of India’s most respected and highly rated personalities. Priyanka is also one of India’s highest-paid and most popular celebrities. Chopra is regarded as a global star and trendsetter in the film industry.

Priyanka Chopra’s Early Life and Education

Priyanka Chopra was born in the Indian state of Jainshedpur on 18 July 1982 to Dr. Ashok Chopra and Dr. Madhu Chopra, who were physicians of the Indian Army. She attended La Martiniere Girls School in Lucknow, St. Maria Goretti College, Newton North High School in Newton, Massachusetts, John F. Kennedy High School, Cedar Rapids, and Lowa Army School. 

At the age of thirteen, Chopra moved to the United States to study and lived with her aunt, attending schools in Newton and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, before moving to Queens, New York, where her aunt’s family had moved. 

She enjoys Indian music, and dances with flair, writes poetry and short stories, reads biographies, and works extensively in social welfare programs.

Her parents, Dr. Ashok Chopra and Dr. Madhu Chopra, worked as military doctors. The former Miss World has a younger sibling named Siddharth and, actress Parineeti Chopra is her cousin.

Priyanka Chopra married Nick Jonas, a well-known American musician, in 2018. Chopra and Jonas got married at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India. 

Career

Priyanka Chopra started out as a model before becoming one of Bollywood’s most prominent actresses, winning numerous Indian beauty contests and soon being courted by filmmakers across India. After winning Miss World, Chopra was supposed to make her film debut in 2002 with Abbas Mustan’s romantic thriller Humraaz, but the film fell through. She ultimately made her debut with the Tamil film Thamizhan as the love interest of the protagonist. 

She became particularly known for her glamorous role in her next film Andaaz, for which she received a Filmfare Award. Her portrayal of Soniya Roy, the antagonist of the 2004 fil Aitraaz earned her critical acclaim. The Hindi film Mujhse Shaadi Karogi was Priyanka’s first commercial hit. In 2005, not content with five films in a year, Chopra starred in six films including, Blackmail, Karam, Yakeen, and Barsaat, most of which failed to make a mark at the box office, but her acting received praise. While some of her films missed the mark, Chopra continued to have a diverse film career.

Chopra enjoyed a successful year with the release of two major films in 2006, the superhero film Krrish and the action film Don, both of which eventually had sequels. 2008 was one of Chopra’s best years and made her one of the most prominent faces of the Bollywood industry, with films like Fashion and Dostana. The success of these films led her to take on experimental roles in films, where she delivered knock-out performances, like in Kaminey, 7 Khoon Maaf, and Barfi.

Priyanka Chopra received a lot of attention for being the first South Asian actress to play the lead in an American series. ABC’s series Quantico made her a prominent face in the US as well.

In her career till now, Chopra Jonas has played many memorable roles in movies like Anjaana Anjaani, Agneepath, Bajirao Mastani, Dil Dhadakne Do, The Sky Is Pink, among others.

Struggles Faced by Priyanka Chopra

The 38-year-old actress said she wanted to have a role in a mainstream Hollywood film because she had enjoyed being a mainstream actress in India from the beginning of her career. She also said she didn’t want to be a sidekick in movies. The actress revealed that her father Dr. Ashok Chopra’s wise words propelled her forward in these difficult times. He told her, “The more you talk…the less you learn.”

Priyanka has also spoken about her struggles in the early days of the film industry, where directors would force her to dance or make her wear clothes of a certain kind or want her to look a certain way. Awards and Honours of Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra has won numerous awards, including the National Film Awards and five Filmfare Awards, and was awarded the Padma Shri, the Indian government’s fourth-highest civilian award, in 2016.

She has also won awards in the US for her role in the American series Quantico.
