China Is Again Drowning Under The Wave Of Covid

Fear of a severe Covid blockade caused a hoarding in Beijing as a long line was formed in a large central district on Monday due to a mass inspection ordered by  Chinese authorities.

China is already trying to contain the wave of infection in its largest city, Shanghai. Shanghai has been almost completely closed for several weeks, with 51 new Covids reported dead on Monday.

Shanghai struggles to provide fresh food to people trapped in their homes, but patients report problems with access to non-Covid medicines, and an increase in cases in the capital has a similar blockade. Is causing fear.

Chaoyang, the largest district in downtown Beijing and home to about 3.5 million people, has ordered a mass inspection of residents and those working there since Monday.

The region is home to the headquarters of many multinational corporations and embassies. On Monday, the line meandered outside the mall and office blocks while people were waiting for the samples to be wiped by health workers wearing protective equipment.

“If one case is found, the area could be affected,” said 25-year-old office worker Yao Leiming, who drove to Chaoyang’s test site with a group of colleagues. Mass test orders and warnings for the city’s “harsh” Covid situation caused a stampede in a supermarket in Beijing on Sunday as residents were rushing to stock their necessities.

People were seen pushing grocery-laden shopping carts, but AFP checked on Sunday that many items in the grocery delivery app were sold out, especially for deliveries to Chaoyang.

Many fitness studios and gyms in the capital have cancelled or closed classes. Beijing has also introduced strict regulations upon entry into the city, requiring travellers to test negative for Covid within 48 hours.  China is struggling to overcome the worst outbreaks in two years with a ZeroCovid playbook that includes strict blockades, mass inspections, and travel bans. Higher authorities say these policies have helped China avoid the colossal public health disasters seen elsewhere in the world during the Covid crisis, but the approach has helped. business and the public. It was a big blow. Shanghai reported 39 Covid deaths on Sunday. This is the maximum number per day, despite the blockage for several weeks.

China

Beijing, the capital of China, has warned of a “pessimistic” situation with increasing infections.  The world’s second-largest economy is struggling to stop the worst outbreaks in two years with strict blockades and mass-tested playbooks while maintaining strict ZeroCovid policies, a devastating blow to corporate and public morale. Is giving. Shanghai’s international business hub has been almost completely closed since the beginning of the month, the supply chain has roared, and many residents have been trapped in their homes for longer as they became the epicentre of the outbreak.  China’s largest city has only announced its first death from the outbreak on April 18, despite reporting thousands of cases daily in the past few weeks.

According to National Health Commission data, an additional 39 deaths were reported on Sunday, bringing the total number of casualties to 87 and the country recording nearly 22,000 new local virus cases. The highest daily toll in Shanghai since the blockage was 12, and it was reported the day before. The  25 million cities struggled to provide fresh food to those trapped in their homes, but patients were normal because thousands of healthcare workers were stationed to test and treat Covid.

Reported a problem with access to medical care. Health officials said the median age of death at the time of the outbreak in Shanghai was 81 years, warning of the specific risk of Covid to the country’s elderly and those who are rarely vaccinated. According to officials, the dead were among those in critical condition with serious underlying illnesses, but five of the dead were vaccinated. Questions have been raised about the effectiveness of China’s domestic vaccines, and Beijing does not import foreign-made vaccines.

Online repulsion

Censorship officers have fought to end the online backlash against the ongoing blockade in Shanghai. This includes swift censorship of residents’ viral videos outlining daily challenges in eating and accessing important services. A fire broke out in the apartment building on Saturday night, causing fear and criticism on social media. This is because many exits of the compound have been blocked as part of Covid’s total control.

Meanwhile, the capital blocked the downtown gated community as 22 more infections were reported in Beijing on Sunday and authorities warned that the situation was “severe and complex.” Health official Pang Xinghuo said preliminary observations suggest that Covid has been “invisible” in the city for a week, “making it more difficult to prevent and manage.” .. Almost a quarter of Beijing’s active cases are people over the age of 60, and half of the infected elderly are not vaccinated with the Covid vaccine, Pang said.

Chaoyang’s populous eastern district said it would expand the Covid test, adding that after-school face-to-face lessons and sports activities were banned indefinitely.

China

Many fitness studios and gyms in the capital have already cancelled or closed classes. Beijing has also introduced strict regulations upon entry into the city, requiring travellers to test negative for Covid

within 48 hours.  People who have travelled to cities or counties where only one case of Covid has been reported in the last two weeks are banned from entering the country.

Mainland China has reported 19 confirmed cases of COVID infected locally in the last 24 hours and 52 other deaths, the National Health Commission said Tuesday.  Of these regional cases, 1,661 were reported, with the remaining cases reported in 17 other state-level areas of the mainland, including 91 in Jiangxi, 44 in Jilin, and 32 in Beijing.

Xinhua reported that it was done, citing the Commission. China has also reported a total of 15,816 locally infected asymptomatic new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, of which 15,319 have been identified in Shanghai. 4,444 Up to 28,726 COVID patients are being treated in hospitals across the country, and 2,323 have recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours. According to the Xinhua News Agency, 52 COVID 19s have died in Shanghai in the last 24 hours, increasing the country’s death to 4,828.

As the outbreak of COVID19 spreads to more cities in China, questions about the country’s Zero-COVID policy are rising. The country’s widely-publicized “zero covid” strategy, which the government believed until recently had taken the country out of the pandemic, is collapsing as rapidly increasing incidents re-enforce a major blockade like  2020. I have. In addition, China’s financial hub, Shanghai, is facing the worst outbreak of COVID19  and is desperate for a basic supply of medicines and food. (ANI)
