Arvind Kejriwal Is Tested COVID Positive

Arvind Kejriwal, the city’s chief minister, said on Twitter this morning that he has been diagnosed with Covid and is isolated at home.

” I have tested positive for Covid. Mild symptoms. I have isolated myself at home. I urge anybody who came in contact with me in the last few days to also isolate themselves and get tested, ”  responded the Chief Minister, who has been campaigning for the upcoming elections in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

During the 24 hours ending on Monday, Delhi reported 4,099 new positivity cases.

It was announced in an official statement that Delhi has a positivity rate of 6.46 per cent. Six thousand and two hundred twenty-eight COVID-19 patients are in home isolation.

One Covid death was recorded in Delhi on Monday.

Experts suggest that the Omicron variant is driving the vast majority of cases in Delhi. Satyender Kumar Jain, Delhi’s health minister, said that 81 per cent of samples were found to be infected with Omicron based on genome sequencing from three labs undertaken on December 30-31.  The most common cause of cases has been Omicron, noted Jain.

According to sources, this surge may prompt new restrictions under the GRAP or colour-coded Graded Response Action Plan. This will be decided at a meeting today of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority.

If the positive sentiment rate exceeds 5% for two days in a row, Delhi will be subject to severe red alert restrictions, including a full curfew for essential services, closures of non-essential shops, malls and stores, and restrictions on public transport. , weddings and funerals. The yellow notice is effective from December 29 in the capital. To avoid confusion, odd day schedules have been introduced for cinemas and gyms. Only half the capacity of subways and buses can be used.

Arvind Kejriwal,  the chief minister of Delhi, had been tested approximately a year ago and had gone into isolation following the development of symptoms.

In response to rising case numbers, Mr Arvind Kejriwal had urged people not to panic, stating that the situation is under control and hospitalisations were low.

The chief minister had isolated himself following the news that Sunita Kejriwal tested positive for Covid-19 last April.

On the back of the new coronavirus variant Omicron, crime rates in Delhi have soared because of an outbreak of Covid-19 infections.

New Delhi’s health minister Satyendar Jain told the state assembly on Monday that Omicron has now become the dominant strain in the capital, with 81% of the samples sent for genome sequencing showing evidence of the heavily mutated virus.

The recent covid results showed that 152 of 187 latest Covid samples tested contained Omicron (81 per cent) and 8.5 per cent contained Delta.

In addition, he told the Assembly that none of the Omicron-infected patients admitted to the city hospitals had needed oxygen to date.

In the city, there were 4,099 new Covid infections on Monday, and the positivity rate jumped to 64.6 per cent, both of which reached their highest levels since May 18, when there were 4,482 new cases and a 6.89 per cent positivity rate.

Health experts have expressed concern over the rising positivity rate in the capital, which may result in more stringent policies. Under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, a meeting of the district disaster management authority (DDMA) will be held on Tuesday. The chief minister and other officials and experts will also be present.

Experts will be consulted and discussions will take place on whether the national capital needs more restrictions because of the sudden surge in population.

New Delhi is currently under a ‘Yellow Alert’, the first level of restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (Grap), although it has reached the positivity rate required for the highest level of alert, Red Alert, which entails a complete lockdown.

The Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) of the DDMA states that a positivity rate of more than five per cent for two consecutive days leads to the declaration of a ‘red alert’ which entails the suspension of the capital’s regular activities.

During the ‘Red Alert,’ a complete curfew will be imposed, the Delhi Metro will be closed, and private offices will be permitted to open only to the utmost extent necessary. City-owned essential shops will be allowed to operate between 10 am and 6 pm, while standalone non-essential shops will not be allowed to operate.

Grad’s Yellow or Level 1 alert is triggered when the case positivity rate crosses 0.5 per cent for two consecutive days or when the cumulative daily positive cases (seven-day rolling average) surpass 1,500 or when the oxygenated bed occupancy rate (seven-day average) exceeds 500.

Whenever there is a positive rate greater than 1 per cent for two consecutive days, or when the cumulative daily average of cases is 3,500, or if there are more than 700 people in bed at any one time, the Amber or Level 2 alert is triggered.

Positive results can be considered at Level 3 (orange) and Level 4 (red) when the rate of positivity is over 2 per cent or 5 per cent. In addition to these criteria, level 3 and level 4 alerts are based on cumulative daily cases of 9,000 and 16,000, and occupied beds of 1,000 and 3,000, respectively.

In addition to attending the meeting with the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the Delhi Chief Minister will also participate in a meeting on today’s COVID-19 situation.

At the end of Monday, Delhi recorded 4,099 new COVID-19 cases and the positivity rate had reached 6.46 percent. Health Minister Satyendar Jain pointed to the Omicron variant of the coronavirus as the cause of the surge in infections and said that more measures would be taken if the bed occupancy rate increased and it was also seen that a Covid death was also reported in Delhi on Monday.

As part of his campaign for the upcoming elections, Kejriwal has been visiting Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh for the past few weeks.
